Daily recaps
Questions people ask
- Where does the whale data come from?
- Our own collector records every whale-sized print on Bybit, OKX, Coinbase and Kraken, netted per transaction, and stores hourly rollups per coin and venue. Binance publishes its own trade archive, so its history comes from there — spot trades — rather than from our collector. On-chain moves come from labelled exchange-wallet transfers.
- Does whale flow predict price?
- Not in our own backtest across 60 coins: whale flow predicted activity, not direction. The whale board therefore states each coin's flow against its own seven-day baseline, beside the crowd's positioning and the price move, and makes no call on direction.
- What does 'vs normal' mean on the whale board?
- The 24h net flow measured in standard deviations of that coin's own daily net over the previous seven days. Beyond one sigma with net buying is accumulation; beyond one sigma with net selling is distribution; heavy two-sided volume is active.
