The funding interval is how often a perpetual contract settles its funding payment between longs and shorts — every 4 or 8 hours on most pairs (most Binance USDT perps now settle every 4) and every hour on a few. The same quoted rate means very different annual costs at different intervals, so the interval is part of the number.

A rate is only comparable once you annualise it: 0.1% every 8 hours is 0.3% a day and roughly 110% a year; the same 0.1% every hour is 2.4% a day and over 870% a year. Binance publishes the interval per symbol, and it changes — a pair can move from 8h to 4h when its funding stays extreme, which is itself a tell that the exchange is trying to cool a crowded side. Our funding monitor reads the real interval for every pair and annualises on it, because a table that assumes 8h for everything misstates half the market.

The trap is on the newer, hotter coins: they tend to fund hourly, so a modest-looking 0.05% is actually the most expensive rent on the board. If you hold a perp through a weekend, count the settlements you will pay, not the rate you saw once. And read the interval next to open interest — a crowded side paying fast funding into rising OI is a squeeze being wound, not a trend confirming.
